Interview
For as long as she can remember, Scotland native Susan Murray has felt the need to create. From textiles to jewelry, she tried a number of creative outlets before a set of unusual circumstances led her to trying colored pencils. Now an established artist, she pours all of her art heart and soul into every piece, whether it’s the portrait of a family pet or a wildlife piece.
She shares her artistic journey in general, her most unusual beginning with colored pencils, and her work as a portrait artist and teacher.
She also has great ideas for promoting colored pencil locally; ideas any of us can put to good use.
Tutorial
Susan provided a great in-depth tutorial in which she combines PanPastels and colored pencils to draw an adorable and mischievous Dachshund.
Her tutorial includes an easy way to draw complex rug and carpet textures, as well as realistic dog fur, eyes, and even claws!
If you love pet portraits, you won’t want to miss this one.
