The CP Magic Colored Pencil Art Showcase is an annual special issue of CP Magic!. It is a collection of the best artwork the previous year, and features cover-to-cover colored pencil work from national and international artists.
CP Magic Colored Pencil Art Showcase Submission Guidelines
The Details
Artist’s at all levels are invited to submit work. Artwork will be divided into two main categories: Non-Professional artists and Professional artists.
Professional artists are artists who are making all or part of their living through sales of their work in any form. That includes merchandise (greeting cards, reproductions, mugs, clothing, etc.) or teaching.
Non-Professional artists are divided into three sub-categories.
Beginners: Artists who have been using colored pencils for twelve months or less.
Intermediate: Artists who have been using colored pencils for between one and three years.
Advanced: Artists who have been using colored pencils for more than three years.
Now is the time for you to start thinking about submitting your best colored pencil artwork. The entry deadline is January 15, 2027, but it’s never too early to enter!
And I’d like to include your best piece from 2026!
CP Magic Colored Pencil Art Showcase: The Rules
- Mostly colored pencil work. You may use other mediums along with your colored pencils. Watercolors, watercolor pencils, inks and markers, and pastels, etc. But make sure you submit artwork created mostly in colored pencil. NOTE: Make sure your pencils are colored pencils. Pastel pencils are not the same as colored pencils.
- Proof of Right to Use Reference Photograph. Your submission must be accompanied by the written permission of any photographer who is not also a family member. This includes both amateur and professional photographers. If you use images from royalty free websites or reference photo groups, you must include a screen shot showing the name of the website you chose, the photographer’s username, and the reference photo. (All of this information is usually available on the download page before you actually download the image). NO EXCEPTIONS. Artwork created from your own reference photos is still your best option.
- If your artwork is a portrait, please make sure you have the permission of the person in the portrait to have their likeness reproduced in a magazine format. This also includes portraits of pets and other subjects.
- NO CELEBRITY ART. Actor, musician, athlete, if the person is a recognizable, public person, chose another piece of artwork.
- ONE entry per artist.
- Do not submit artwork based on tutorials, art challenges or other similar sources.
- Artwork based on completely AI-generated reference photos (photos generated entirely by AI) will not be accepted. If you used AI to improve an existing reference photo, that is acceptable.
Artwork that does not meet these qualifications will not be considered.
Submission Guidelines
Images must be:
- Digital images must be clear and accurately represent the actual artwork
- At least 2000 pixels on the longest side
- At least 200 dpi resolution (300 dpi is ideal)
- Must show only the artwork. No frames or mats.
Preparing Your Digital Image
Your digital image should be no smaller than 2000 pixels either tall or wide (whichever is bigger) and saved at 200 dpi resolution minimum.

How to Submit
Prepare your image, then attach it to an email to artsubmissions@carrie-lewis.com.
Include your name and the title of the work as you want it to appear.
Also include the category (beginner, intermediate, advanced, professional) for which you qualify.
Entry deadline: 11:59 pm Central Time US, January 15, 2027.
Of course early entries are welcome!
