The Final Pencil Stroke

Featured Artist: Kim Vlahovich

Canadian artist Kim Vlahovich has been creating art in some form all his life. He has always enjoyed the creative process, whether at work or in retirement.

“The satisfaction of simply putting pencil to paper has always fascinated me,” he says.

He usually doesn’t have to look very far for interesting subjects; he draws everything from grandchildren playing in mud puddles to gas meters and other everyday things most of us don’t even see.

His tutorial is one of those subjects. He chose the bright, saturated colors of a playground structure and mixed media paper to capture smooth textures, rich color, and bright highlights. This is a small format drawing (8 x 8 inches) that’s a perfect weekend project. Get a fast start with a downloadable reference photo and line drawing.
