The studio news for December 2025 is short and sweet. Mostly because it was the holiday season, but also because of my health.

CP Magic! News

The January issue of CP Magic! was a challenge, but it published on time. I’m thankful to the Good LORD and all the people who helped make it come together.

This issue is different in that the featured artist, Rebecca Stone, didn’t provide a tutorial.

But Crystal Wolfe did! She wrote an excellent article on ochres and included a “study” using only five ochre colors. I have to tell you that earth tones are among my favorite colors, so I did the tutorial. I even did it on Bristol Vellum, which is the same paper Crystal used.

Drawing Time for the Month

There are times when goals are helpful.

There are other times when they’re not helpful.

I found myself in that position with regard to tracking drawing time, and with attempting to draw for five hours a week. Too many other things were clamoring for attention and I had limited stamina, so I decided in November to end the five hours of drawing a week goal.

I also stopped tracking the time I spent drawing. That was more difficult to do because I’ve been tracking time for years. I did journal some of the bigger projects, like the Portrait of Bing ACEO, but for the most part, I just drew and didn’t worry about the rest.

Because the period between Thanksgiving and New Year’s is such a busy time anyway, I also didn’t push myself to draw. Consequently, the only thing I finished in December was one ACEO (Art Cards, Originals and Editions, aka art trading card).

Looking to the Future

I’m not sure what to tell you about the future. Right now, it looks like more of the same because I am still dealing some some fatigue. For the big picture, I refer you back to Art Goals for 2026.

For the more immediate future, I will continue working on the two projects that I started in late 2025. I’m writing tutorials for both as well as drawing, so it’s a long process. But if all goes well, both pieces will be finished soon and the tutorials will publish sometime in 2026.

That’s all the news that’s fit to print (or publish) for December 2025. Despite the challenges, struggles, and other activities, it was a good month.
