Kelly Almer is this issue’s featured artist. Kelly is a professional artist, teacher, wife, and mom, who started drawing at an early age. Although she began making her own art with acrylics, which her parents purchased, she is now a dedicated colored pencil artist.

Her subjects include intricately detailed city scenes and storefronts, whimsical holiday subjects, and more serious pet and animal portraits. As you can see in the cover design below, she has a unique style with furry animals, but she can also do highly polished subjects.

Her tutorial is very appropriate to the season, featuring a steaming cup of something yummy, pumpkins, and a rustic window showing the colors of autumn through glass panes. There are opportunities to draw a blurred background, steam, and some lovely still life elements.
