Carmen Barros is the featured artist for this issue. If you’ve visited Ann Kullberg’s store, you’ve probably seen Carmen’s work, since she’s created a number of great tutorials for Ann. Just look for something with a black or dark background, and chances are it’s Carmen’s work.

Carmen shares a lot of good, helpful information on the artistic life, including how she finds some of the unique items in her work, and how she sets up and photographs her subjects.

She also created a beautiful tutorial for this issue of CP Magic!, including her trademark dark background. This time, she shows you how to draw three clear, glass bottles in different colors. She provided lots of beautiful illustrations and clear instructions.

So if you want to learn how to draw better, more life-like reflections, or if you want to try drawing on black paper, I cannot recommend Carmen’s tutorial enough. It includes links to a full-size line drawing and reference photo to give you a fast start.

Old School Marketing

The internet is a great marketing tool for artists of all types. But if you’re like me, you’ve often wondered if there wasn’t another way to market; a more personal way.

In this article, I share some of the ways I marketed my work in the days before I found the internet. The article also includes great ideas from other artists, including guest blogger on this blog, Jana Botkin. Most of these suggestions work hand-in-hand with internet marketing.

Of course, they also work if you don’t market online.

Other Features

In Art Corners for this month, I share a storage tip that also makes traveling with art supplies much easier. With the holidays not that far away, this may be just what you’re looking for if you want to stay creatively productive!

I also review the Arteza, 8-1/2 x 5-1/2 inch, hardcover drawing pad, including a couple of sketches I dashed off on this new (to me) paper.

In The Tip Sheet, I share several reasons why it’s important to keep a photographic record of your work.
