My Horse Painter Blog

You are now able to not only watch paintings come to life, but to offer your thoughts and comments on the process or to ask questions about my methods and techniques by visiting my new blog at Carrie L. Lewis Horse Painter.

Current updates include step-by-step demonstrations on two current portraits and news and information from the studio.

Jamestown New Horizons ~ Riding for the Disabled

Jamestown New Horizons is an organization I worked with for several years in the late 1980s and 1990s. It is a not-for-profit organization founded in 1985 and provides therapeutic/recreational horseback riding opportunities for people with disabilities in the St. Louis metropolitan area. Their mission is to "promote the health and quality of life for people with disabilities through equine-assisted therapy."

One of their fundraisers is an annual benefit dinner and auction in mid- to late-October. Goods, services and many other items are donated each year to help raise funds for this very worthy organization. My participation with the group was in the donation of original paintings or custom portraits to the auction.

AL Firestorm

AL Firestorm is a black bay Arabian stallion. Lithe and elegant, he is the result of generations of careful planning and wise decisions made by Arabian breeders and horsemen. HE IS BRED TO BE A BREEDING STALLION.

AL Firestorm is also a wonderful subject for paintings and photography! He has appeared more often in my artwork since my move to Kansas than any other horse and has been portrayed in both oil paints and colored pencils. I look forward to many more opportunities to enjoy his presence and beauty.

Express Clydesdales

Robert A. Funk, founder and CEO of Express Personnel Services, first encountered Clydesdales on a trip to Canada in 1996. He purchased eight rare black and white Clydesdales and sent them to his ranch in Yukon, Oklahome and Express Clydesdales was born.

There are now over 40 black clydesdales of all ages at Express Clydesdales, including a traveling hitch that has appeared at such prestigious events as the Rose Parade, the National Clydesdale show in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and the Professional Bull Rider's World Finals.

If you get a chance to see them perform, I encourage you to take it. They are an awesome and awe-inspiring team.

If you live in the Yukon area or will be traveling through, give the farm a call. If they are open, the experience will be worth the trip!

Carriage Factory Gallery

The Carriage Factory Gallery in Newton, Kansas is a study in contrast. Parts of the structure are more than 100 years old and began life as a blacksmith's forge and carriage factory. Today, it serves as a showplace for the artwork of local and regional artists. Works include oil paintings, watercolors, acrylics and colored pencil paintings, sculptures, glass art and many, many gift items.

Dave Ramsey

If you are serious about reducing or eliminating debt altogether, I invite you to visit Dave Ramsey's web site and check out his Financial Peace University and Total Money Make Over programs. I have read both of his books (New York Times best sellers, both of them!) and have been working both of the programs with my husband and Dave's no-nonsense, common sense approach to handling money works in all economies and at all income levels.

The Equine Art Guild

The Equine Art Guild is a group of artists all specializing in horse art! You'll find all kinds of wonderful things in watercolors, acrylics, oils, pastels, bronze, even mosiacs. It's a MUST SEE for horse lovers, art lovers and horse art lovers! I invite you to take a look, but make sure you have lots of time to browse because you will lose track of the time!
