Landscape Study #21 2008, completed August 15, 2008.

This is one of those delightful paintings that just about paints itself. Simple lines, strong shadows, great color.

I think my biggest contribution to this painting was that I didn’t spend too much time tweaking and adjusting. I love to tweak and adjust, after all, and I just didn’t have the time to do that with this one.

This is a gallery painting. That means it was completed entirely at the gallery and in little bits of time snatched here and there throughout the week. It was finished on Friday in about two minutes because that’s all the time I had!

And all I was able to do in that amount of time was add the brightest yellows around the center of interest where the sunny side of the middle hill intersects the shady side of the foreground hill.

Now that I think about it, I don’t think I had time to clean my brush before our special guest artist, Ralph Roybal, arrived to set up his one-day exhibit of bronze sculptures. What a great excuse not to paint!

As I mentioned yesterday, I have really discovered a rhythm to painting like this and being able to finish something every day has also been a huge boost to the artistic morale. I may just try to keep it up for as long as possible.
