I am very pleased to announce that the Horse Gift Mural Book has been published and will soon be available for purchase.
The book features a two-page spread on each of the 238 paintings that make up the Le Cadeau du Cheval mural. One page shows a full color image of the painting and the facing [...]

I seem to be settling into a routine with creative work.
In the studio, I spend Mondays working on exhibit paintings with little or no work on portraits unless they are also exhibit paintings. The exhibit paintings being documented on this blog require at least a week to dry between sessions and three weeks between stages, [...]

Welcome to Classical Paintings!
This is Carrie L. Lewis’ new painting blog and features her work in the classical style.
She has not removed the Horse Painter blog, it is just temporarily inactive and is being rerouted to Classical Paintings. That is why you clicked on your old bookmark and ended up at a new location.
The fault [...]

Contemplation
9×12 on Prepped Masonite
With one painting completed in the dead layer phase, it was time to move to the next one. Afternoon Graze was next on the list.
I had hoped to finish this one at this phase this week, but a combination of regularly scheduled events and special events during the evenings and the advent [...]

Contemplation
9×12 on Prepped Masonite
The dead layer is now complete.
Most of the tidying up work that needed to be done involved the mane and forelock, but I also punched up the highlights on the face and reshaped the eye and the ear that is turned forward.

A lot of painting last week, but only one painting to share.
Monday and Tuesday of last week were just about completely barren as far as painting goes. I did some art-related work on Monday, but it was all either on a web site redesign for myself or in capturing still frames of the at-liberty routines [...]

Contemplation
9×12 on Prepped Masonite
On April 15, I took Contemplation off the drying shelf and started work on the dead layer.
Before painting began, the surface was very lightly scraped with a razor blade to remove hairs, dust and dirt that accumulated during the drying process. A few scratches resulted, most notably in the mane, but they [...]

Whew!
The Sunflower Arab Show is now past and it’s time to get back into some kind of routine.
The show went great with lots of interest in the work on display, which included my Mural Mosiac poster and three or four paintings in progress with the Flemish Technique. Flyers also ‘flew’ out of the booth and [...]
